Chatted with Jeff Kralik of The Drunken Cyclist . Stepping in – or should that be “riding in” – for a friend, Jeff is clearly an expert on all things about Rodney Strong Vineyards and was an excellent spokesperson.
The Rodney Strong Winery was founded in 1963 by Rod Strong. Rick Sayre (now winemaking emeritus) joined back in 1979 as winemaker when Rod Strong decided to slow down just a tad. The winery was sold in 1989 to the Klein family and they’ve owned it ever since. Justin Seidenfeld ‘s been there about 12 years as the current winemaker.
The 2016 Upshot Red Wine Blend it’s a blend of five different Sonoma County varieties:
- 37% Zinfandel
- 30% Malbec
- 27% Merlot
- 3% Petit Verdot
- 3% Riesling (yes, a touch of white wine being blended in)
