Review: Becker Vineyards – TX

Official Review by The Traveling Winers

Becker Vineyard was purchased by Dr. Richard and Bunny Becker in 1990 and opened to the public in 1996.  They produce about 89,000 cases of wine per year.  They own three vineyards (total of 95 acres) throughout Texas where they utilize the grapes for their wine.  In addition, they pull grapes from other Texas vineyards and some from New Mexico as needed to fulfill production.  All of their wines are made on premise.  This wine tasting experience is ALWAYS fun!  There is plenty of room at the bar to taste and the staff are friendly and really have fun with the patrons!  Oh, and don’t forget to take your glass with you from the tasting (it comes with the tasting fee).  The glasses are really large and nice!  We recommend that you DON’T miss this experience!

“Hops ‘r Better” Winer

For a larger winery in the region, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.  We happen to have Nicole as both our tour guide and our tasting host which made it a lot more personable.  Though I only really enjoyed one or two wines, there are a lot of wines to choose from.

The “Hippy” Winer

This was a warm and inviting atmosphere, richly decorated and felt similar to a “lodge” with a lot of wood and wall murals.  I thought the folks were super friendly and very proud of Dr. Becker’s vision for his estate.  I enjoyed the wines and the port (which is not usually my favorite), so much, in fact, that is what we purchased!  I can see why my fellow “winers” have come back twice.  Definitely, a winery not to miss!

“This Is The Life” Winer

This was my second time visiting this winery, and both times the experience was the same – excellent!  The tour was short enough but very informative.  My favorite wines were the Canada Reserve Cab…so, so, so good, the 2012 Prairie Rotie, a blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, and Petite Syrah, complex, fruity, with minimal tannins, and the 2012 White Wing, smokey, oaky, yummy!

“Timeless” Winer

Nicely laid out well maintained, working vineyard/farm.  The tasting room was spacious and I thought well laid out to give ample room for both guests and staff.  Though it was relatively crowded and near the end of the day, the staff had no problem attending to our needs and answering our questions.  An extensive selection of wines of which three really caught my attention and presented a challenge to the nose and tongue. When you go, do NOT neglect the exterior grounds!

AMBIANCE GROUNDS & SCENERY TASTING ROOM
Warm, inviting, friendly, casual comfortable environment A place to come and wander, working farm/vineyard, a place to come relax with a bottle of wine and a good book Super spacious, well laid out, bar in the middle of the room and was very large to accommodate MANY people
WINE TASTING EXPERIENCE CUSTOMER SERVICE TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
Excellent, a great place for first-time wine tasters, a place that would draw a crowd.  And THANKS for the bleu cheese and crackers- we were starving! Outstanding, friendly (and we had several people help us), very busy but still made time!  And they were all very nice and cordial with each other. Very good, understood their wines well and were eager and share
