“Hops ‘r Better” Winer

Wine: 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Malbec Petite Siraht
Type: Red
Vineyard: Ancient Peaks Winery

Buy local

“Though I rated this a 76 in Quini, it is not one of my favorites, but I’ll let you be the judge – it’s good enough to try and form an opinion on. Intense appearance, with present-full aromas. A medium-full-bodied red. The finish is subtle-layered. An overall good-excellent cabernet sauvignon merlot malbec petite Sirah blend from the United States.”
“This is the Life” Winer

Wine: 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Ghost Pines

Buy local or find it at

Cabernet grapes from Sonoma and Napa add juicy red and black fruit flavors along with a disciplined structural foundation. The blend of these regions creates aromas and flavors of dark fruit jam and sweet nuts that liken the taste of this wine to oatmeal cookies straight out of the oven.

The “Timeless” Winer

Wine: Riebeek Cellars Pinotage 2012
Type: Dry, Red
Vineyard: Riebeek Cellars Winery (South Africa)

Buy local or find it at

A gorgeous bright ruby color that snatches the eye was the first thing I noticed.  The Pinotage has become one of my favorites with the flavors of plum, cherry and raisins.  We were having jerked chicken for dinner and I opened this on a whim, wow.  Everything popped with flavors that mingled and complimented each other.  Gave me an opportunity to tell the wife, ‘told you this was a good one.’ Ha!

The “Hippy” Winer

Wine: Vinos Pinol Sa Natura Organic Red Blend 2009
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Vinos Pinol Winery (Spain)

Buy local or find it at

Anything organic catches my attention so when I spotted this at the local store I just had to try it.  What a pleasant surprise. A very nice red with excellent color that catches the eye and imagination.  The scent and flavor of dark fruits are smooth and the tannins were just right for me.  The finish, excellent.
