Traveling Winers Monthly Wine Picks

Faces-TomJoeTom Joe
“Hops ‘r Better” Winer

Wine: 2011 Chardonnay
Type: White
Vineyard: Don Sebastiani & Sons

Buy local

“Bright-intense appearance, with present-full aromas. A medium-full-bodied white. The finish is layered. An overall good chardonnay from the United States.

I rate this 71 in Quini but still think that it has an aroma that can get you talking!”

“This is the Life” Winer

Wine: Rancho Sisquoc Merlot 2013
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Rancho Sisquoc Winery (California)

Buy local or find it at

On one of our wine trails to Santa Barbara, we stopped at Rancho Sisquoc and I was pretty impressed with their wines. So, when I spotted their Merlot in my honey’s shopping bag I knew that we were all in for a treat. The color is dark and wondrous. The first taste and my mouth was just filled with berries and the finish was just as smooth as I could ask for with that strong oak I favor. This wine, some good strong cheeses and our friends to reminisce with about the golden hills of California, perfect.

The “Timeless” Winer

Wine: Riebeek Cellars Pinotage 2014
Type: Dry, Red
Vineyard: Riebeek Cellars Winery (South Africa)

Buy local or find it at

I really like just about anything that comes out of South Africa but, I am particularly fond of the Pinotage.  It is always a delight to the eye with its ruby color that is tinged with a deeper purple.  On the tongue, I found plenty of reminders of ripe plums and dried fruits.  The finish is long and satisfying.   We had it with lamb and spring potatoes and it paired just wonderfully.  There are a couple bottles nesting in my cabinet as I type.

The “Hippy” Winer

Wine: Pacific Rim Frambroise
Type: Red, Sweet
Vineyard: Pacific Rim Winery (Washington)

Buy local or find it at

This is another really good organic wine that has earned a place in our cabinet. We picked this up as a dessert wine to serve to my brothers who are only interested in sweet wine. The color was beautiful, really bright and clear. The scent took me back to the raspberry patches we picked from as a child. We served it over homemade vanilla ice cream and got rave reviews.
