“Intense appearance, with intense aromas. A full-bodied white. The finish is layered-complex. An overall excellent chardonnay from the USA.
I rated this a 74 in Quini, but it was 8/10 for my opinion – I think that the beauty of the winery when we visited was in every taste!!”

Yellow with gold highlights and green hues; floral bouquet laced with scents of exotic fruit, almonds, hazelnuts and mineral aromas; full-bodied with a long finish; balanced and harmonious on the palate; ideal with appetizers, fish dishes, shellfish and white meat.

I absolutely love the color of this wine in my glass, bright ruby red that I would wear on my hand if I could.  In the nose, the red fruit of raspberry and plum are supported with hints of black cherry and cedar. Those red fruits really come to the fore on the tongue. This wine has a nice, lengthy, red fruit finish.  It was a great companion to the hard Irish cheese and crackers I nibbled and a Sherlock Holmes novel I was revisiting.

Wine: Spice Route Chakalaka 2011
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Spice Route Winery (South Africa)

Buy local or find it at Wine.com

This baby has a really intense red-purple that catches and holds the light in the glass. In the nose, I found (surprise!) smoked cloves, plum and black cherry with a hint of sweet oak spice. The flavors of the spices blended well with the fruit, no one dominating any of the others.  The flavors lingered giving it a nice long finish.  A most excellent companion to the book I was reading.
