Traveling Winers Weekend Wine Picks

Faces-TomJoeTom Joe
“Hops ‘r Better” Winer

Wine: 2011 Merlot
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: FlipFlop Wines

Buy local

A screw-top, that releases a great tasting wine at an even better price! If you cannot find the Chile version, then try any FlipFlop and let me know what you think – I was impressed and gave it a Quini rating of 79/100.
“This is the Life” Winer

Wine: Block UU Bien Nacido Chardonnay 2012
Type: White, Dry
Vineyard: Foxen Vineyards

Buy local or find it at

No forced malolactic fermentation, smooth, not too creamy but awesome layers, a bit of citrus – RATED “A”.

The “Timeless” Winer

Wine: Glen Carlou Grand Classique 2010
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Glen Carlou Winery, South Africa

Buy local or find it at

A classic Bordeaux blend.  Hints of clove, black currants and sandalwood (of all things).  Not harsh and velvet smooth on the tongue.

The “Hippy” Winer

Wine: Valpolicella DOC 2013
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Allegrini Winery, Italy

Buy local or find it at

Allegrini family’s five hundred year winemaking legacy has produced a traditional blend of grapes (65% Corvina, 30% Rondinella and 5% Molinara) harvested from the estate vineyards. A ruby red that is bright and fruity on the nose, with aromas of cherries, plums and a hint of violets. Not too complex; medium bodied with a  balance between the fruit, acidity and tannins.
