Traveling Winers Weekend Wine Picks

Faces-TomJoeTom Joe
“Hops ‘r Better” Winer

Wine: 2011 Grenache
Type: Red
Vineyard: Moretti Wines

Buy local

“Bright-intense appearance, with full aromas. A medium-full-bodied red. The finish is layered. An overall good-excellent grenache from the United States.
This wine has a lot of spice and exciting flavors that appear in your mouth… and then disappears quickly. I rated this a 75 in Quini but, nonetheless, this Grenache is definitely a keeper!!”
“This is the Life” Winer

Wine: Pinot Noir
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Ravines Wine Cellars

The husband picked this wine a few weeks back, but now that I’ve had a chance to try it, I also have to add it to my list!  Very worthy of a Weekend Wine Pick!  Nice, subtle flavors with a nose that hits you hard and stimulates intrigue, wondering what the result will be on the palate.  Let me help you out…the nose is more vibrant than the flavor, but the smoothness and layers in this wine really make it interesting.

The “Timeless” Winer

Wine: Ritual Casablanca Valley Pinot Noir 2013
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Ritual/Veramonte Winery (Chile, South America)

Buy local or find it at

Very nice color.  The nose was filled with black cherries, raspberries and blueberries. On the tongue, I found flavors of ripe plums added to the raspberries was delightful. It was excellent with the goat cheese salad and antipasti plate we had for a late dinner.

The “Hippy” Winer

Wine: Benziger Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Benziger Family Winery (Sonoma County, California)

Buy local or find it at

An excellent color that is clear and classic for this wine.  The nose is full of black cherry and blackberry fruit, with chocolate, dried herbs, cinnamon and vanilla. On the tongue, the flavors of berry and mocha match the nose.  We had it with BBQ ribs and fries.  It was excellent and not overwhelmed by the spices.
