Faces-TomJoeTom Joe
“Hops ‘r Better” Winer

Wine: 2013 Chenin Blanc + Viognier
Type: White
Vineyard: Pine Ridge

Buy local

“Dull-bright appearance, with full-intense aromas of lemon, citrus and tropical. A full-bodied white with lemon, citrus and tropical flavors. The finish is subtle-layered. An overall good Chenin Blanc + Viognier blend from the United States.
I rated this wine 71 in Quinin so it’s not really one to write home about, but still really good for a nice hot summers eve.”
“This is the Life” Winer

Wine: Liars Dice Zinfandel 2011
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Murphy-Goode

Buy local or find it at

Mixing fruits from two different AVAs brings flavors of black cherry and blackberry jam from one, and black raspberry and currants from the other.  As always, this zinfandel brings spice and nice, rounded tannins.

The “Timeless” Winer

Wine: Dona Paula Black Label Red Blend 2012
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: Dona Paula Winery (Argentina, South America)

Buy local or find it at

A gorgeous purple, almost black it was so dark, grabbed my eye.  The scent of plums, nutmeg and red pepper were just the teasers when I first breathed deeply in my glass.  I couldn’t quite get what I smelled and then there it was, the faintest hint of mint.  On the tongue, I nailed chocolate, berries and the touch of nutmeg again.  To say my mouth was happy with this wine would be an understatement.  Definitely a space for it in my rack!

The “Hippy” Winer

Wine: d’Arenberg Stump Jump Shiraz 2011
Type: Red, Dry
Vineyard: d’Arenberg Winery (McLaren Vale, Australia)

Buy local or find it at

Mmmmm. Great color. This wine was extraordinarily complex on the tongue and in the nose. What a great glass of hide and seek! I was able to find the scent of mulberry, violets and black currants. He tongue was very pleasing and I was able to pick out a trace of mint and dark, sweet fruits. Just an excellent glass that stood alone.
